Prof. Animangsu Ghatak, Department of Chemical Engineering was elected to the Fellowship of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI). Prof. Ghatak is an acclaimed researcher and the recipient of the SERB - Science and Technology Award for Research (SERB-STAR), Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering and the Indian National Science Academy.
The Outer Delhi Chapter hosted Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur Alumni Association Convention 2024 on Rising Bharat in New Delhi. The Convention witnessed the attendance of more than 500 alumni along with their families. It provided an excellent opportunity for alumni and IITK faculty to connect, collaborate, network, and celebrate the success of IITK in nation-building.

Prof. Sankar Rath, Department of Chemistry, and Prof. Animangsu Ghatak, Department of Chemical Engineering was elected to the Fellowship of the Indian National Science Academy - INSA, a resource pool of knowledge that promotes Science in India and harnesses scientific knowledge for the cause of humanity and national welfare.
Prof. Rath, a highly decorated academician, has made immense contributions in the field of bioinorganic and biological systems, with the general theme of gaining a better understanding of the heme centers in heme proteins that are vital to the life of almost all living organisms. Prof. Ghatak, an acclaimed researcher, has interests spanning the Mechanics of soft materials, Adhesion, Friction and Fracture at soft interfaces, Locomotion of soft-bodied objects, Fracture of soft gels, Membraneless fuel cell, and the Design of universal nucleant for crystallization of protein molecules.
Prof. Srinivas Bettadpur (MT/AE/1985), professor at the Department of Aerospace Engineering & Engineering Mechanics, The University of Texas at Austin was recognized with the 2024 Charles A. Whitten Medal. This prestigious medal is awarded by the American Geophysical Union to a senior scientist in recognition of outstanding achievement in research on the form and dynamics of the Earth and planets.
The Department of Mathematics & Statistics instituted “Prof. Pravir Dutt Excellence Award” at its department to honor the memory of Prof. Pravir Dutt established by Prof. Y. Sudhakar (BT/CHE/1980), Prof. Aparna Dhar (MSC5/MTH/1980), and Prof. Vinayak Eswaran (BT/ME/1980). This award celebrates the life and work of late Prof. Dutt, who was an alumnus of the institute and faculty at the Department of Mathematics & Statistics, IITK.This award will carry a cash prize and a certificate that will be awarded to an Undergraduate student of 4-year program in Mathematics & Scientific Computing with highest CPI.
Mr. Bhadresh Shah, Founder and Managing Director of AIA Engineering Ltd and distinguished alumnus (BT/MME/1974) formalized a generous philanthropic contribution towards the construction of a new hostel tower in Hall of Residence-16, by signing a MoU with Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director IIT Kanpur. The new hostel tower will be named in honour of Mr. Shah and AIA Engineering for making part contribution in his personal capacity, and the other from AIA Engineering Limited’s Corporate Social Responsibility commitment.
Also gracing the occasion were Mr. Tushar K. Chopra (BT/ME/1974), and his son Mr. Abir Chopra, along with Prof. Amey Karkare, Dean of Resources and Alumni IITK; Mr. Kapil Kaul, CEO of IIT Kanpur Development Foundation; and Mr. Rajat Sharma, Vice President- Development, IITKDF.
Prof. Ashok Kumar, Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering, was elected as a Fellow (2024) of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) (NAMS). He is the Director of IIT Kanpur - La Trobe University Research Academy and Poonam and Prabhu Goel Chair Professor. Prof. Kumar’s research focuses on developing cryogel biomaterials and smart polymers for application in cartilage, bone, skin and neural tissue engineering and drug delivery, along with applying the concept of cryogel bioreactor system for therapeutic protein production and for extracorporeal bioartificial liver support system.
IIT Kanpur and ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, the CSR arm of ICICI Bank signed a MoU to work together on a Digital Health Stack project towards advancing and strengthening healthcare. The MoU was signed by Prof. Janakarajan Ramkumar Ramkumar, Acting Dean of Resources and Alumni, IIT Kanpur, and Mr. Sanjay Datta, President, ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth, in the presence of senior officials of ICICI Foundation and senior professors from IIT Kanpur. Shri Awanish Kumar Awasthi, Advisor to Hon'ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, graced the MoU ceremony virtually.
Prof. Bushra Ateeq, Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering and the Dean of International Relations was elected as a Fellow (2024) of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) (NAMS). Prof. Ateeq, a Joy-Gill Chair and Senior Fellow at the DBT-Wellcome Trust India Alliance, has been a driving force in cancer research. Her work involves exploring the molecular events that drive cancer and facilitate the process of acquiring resistance towards chemotherapeutic drugs.
Prof. Siddhartha Panda, Professor (HAG), Department of Chemical Engineering was elected as a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) – 2024. Prof. Panda’s research interests include transport phenomena, reaction engineering, materials processing and micro/nano fabrication for the development of chemical sensors using printable flexible electronics and silicon electronics based platforms.
Prof. Ashok Kumar was elected as a Fellow of the prestigious Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) - 2024. With a focus on the design and development of new smart polymeric biomaterials and supermacroporous matrices for different applications in biology and biotechnology, this is yet another testament to his outstanding contribution to science and engineering.
IIT Kanpur hosted its first Distinguished Alumni Meet (DAM) from Aug 30 to Sept 1, 2024. This event aimed to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and mentorship among alumni, students, and faculty. Distinguished alumni participated, sharing their experiences and expertise to inspire and support the institute's growth.
Mr. R.V. Rao (MT/CSE/1974) and Mrs. Satya Remala established the Satya & Rao Remala Foundation Chair in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at IIT Kanpur. This Chair was instituted under Satya and Rao Remala Foundation, USA, aims to promote research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the health tech domain.
With the invaluable contribution of The Class of 1970, an upgraded and expanded gym was unveiled at the Old Sports Complex. The new facility, including amenities tailored for women, is a significant step towards fostering a healthier IITK community.
IIT Kanpur celebrated its 57th Foundation Day where Prof. Jayathi Murthy, President of Oregon State University, USA, and an IITK alumna was the distinguished Chief Guest, while Dr. Mahesh Gupta, Board of Governors (BoG), IIT Kanpur; and Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director, IIT Kanpur presided over the convocation. The convocation also recognized students who excelled in various domains by awarding proficiency medals and the IIT Kanpur Excellence Awards for contributions in Community Services, Leadership in Student Affairs, and Art & Cultural Activities, among many other awards and medals for achievements in specific disciplines.
As part of its academia-industry initiative, Airbus has signed an MoU to provide scholarships to girl students at IIT Kanpur under the "Airbus-IIT Flying Start Programme". At its inception this scholarship will be awarded to a few girl students pursuing M.Tech. degree in the department of aerospace engineering for two academic years.
Prof. Ashok Kumar got elected as Fellow of International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineers (IAMBE), class of 2024. Dr. Kumar obtained his Ph.D jointly from IIT Roorkee, and the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, Delhi. He has postdoctoral research experience from institutes in Sweden and Japan. He was a faculty at Lund University, Sweden, prior to his joining the BSBE department in August, 2004 as an Associate Professor at IIT Kanpur.
IIT Kanpur and National Sugar Institute, Kanpur signed an MoU to establish a Centre of Excellence for Biofuels, where both institutes will engage in the joint projects to conduct cutting-edge research and develop and adopt state-of-the-art technology to enhance biofuel production in the country with improved efficiency and sustainability.

Prof. Amey Karkare took charge as the Dean of Resources and Alumni IIT Kanpur. Prof. Karkare is the Poonam and Prabhu Goel Chair fellow and recipient of multiple Best Faculty Awards. He brings immense networking experience with the innumerable collaborations, projects, and management roles he has assumed over the years.
IITKanpur and AVPL INTERNATIONAL, a leading company in the Indian agriculture drone ecosystem joined hands for co-developing cutting-edge drones equipped with advanced technology, designed to address the challenges faced by large-scale landholders in India, Australia, Austria, and multiple European nations. AVPL International will establish its R&D lab within Technopark@iitk, the research and technology park of IIT Kanpur to further bolster research and development efforts, An MoU was signed by Prof. Tarun Gupta, Dean Research and Development IITK, and Ms. Preet Sandhuu, Founder and Chairman of AVPL International. The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Jayandharan G Rao and Prof. Ketan Rajawat from IIT Kanpur, as well as Prof. Amarendra Singh, Reema Mittal, and Dr. Dr. Piyashee Mallik representing Technopark@iitk, along with Mr. Himanshu Sharma, CEO of AVPL International, Mr. Haren Gandhi, and Ms. Sweta Singh from AVPL.
C3i Hub, IIT Kanpur launches Cyber Security Vocational Program in collaboration with Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), Kanpur, and Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj Innovation Foundation (CSJMIF), by signing a MoU at IIT Kanpur. This program is designed to provide students with hands-on experience and industry-relevant knowledge, preparing them for successful careers in the cybersecurity domain.
The MoU signing and exchange ceremony was attended by dignitaries including Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director, IIT Kanpur and Prof. Vinay Pathak, Vice Chancellor, CSJMU along with other dignitaries including Principals from 20 affiliated colleges. Dr. Tanima Hajra, COO and Interim CEO of C3iHub, along with Mr. Anil Kumar Yadav, Registrar of CSJMU, and Mr. Vivek Mishra, CEO of CSJMIF, signed the MoU.
Prof. J. Ramkumar was appointed as the Dean of Infrastructure and Planning. He brings decades of administrative experience in various positions such as the Associate Dean of Student Affairs; Subject Expert and President of Selection Committee’s for IIT’s and NIT’s; Chairman of the Senate Post-Graduate and Security Advisory & Executive Committee; Chairman, Kanpur local Centre, Institute of Engineers )India); and Co-ordinator for Imagineering Lab, MedTech IIT Kanpur & RuTAG IIT Kanpur, among others.
Prof. Bushra Ateeq was appointed as the Dean of International Relations. Prof. Ateeq is a Professor & Joy-Gill Chair, and Senior Fellow of the DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance. She is the Recipient of the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, National Bioscience Award for Career Development, Sun Pharma Research Award, Rajib Goyal Prize for Young Scientists,Tata Innovation Fellowship and elected Fellow of all three major National Science academies, the Indian Academy of Sciences, Indian National Science Academy, and the National Academy of Sciences, India.
Prof. Braj Bhushan took over the role of Deputy Director at IIT Kanpur. He brings with him extensive administrative experience as Dean of Administration and Head of the Department of Humanities & Social Sciences. He is an elected Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science, Washington, DC, USA, and an elected Fellow of British Psychological Society.
IIT Kanpur, in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), inaugurated the DRDO-Industry-Academia Centre of Excellence (DIA CoE) on its campus for interdisciplinary research in next-generation defense technologies, building an ecosystem to facilitate technology development in the academic environment through experienced faculty and bright scholars, in conjunction with the efforts of the different scientists from DRDO laboratories.

Prof. Bushra Ateeq was awarded the TATA Innovation Fellowship 2023-24 by @DBT India in recognition of her outstanding Cancer research contributions. She is a Joy Gill Chair Professor at the department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering at IITK.
IIT Karvaan held its second event in Singapore where over 80 alumni joined the event and had a networking dinner along with their spouses. Technopark at IITK celebrated the inauguration of its state-of-the-art Phase 1 Building. Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology and Shri Awanish Awasthi, Advisor to UP Chief Minister graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor. The ceremony also saw addresses from Professor Amarendra Singh, Professor-in-Charge, and Ms. Reema Mittal, Chief Operating Officer at Technopark along with a workshop on “Industry-Academia Collaborations: Challenges and Opportunities”, and talks from Professor Rajeev Jindal from the Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering.
IIT Kanpur was awarded with the "Top Leading Institute of India Award'' for the year 2024 from the Competition Success Review. The award, on behalf of the institute, was received by Professor Shalabh Shalabh, Dean of Academic Affairs.
IIT Kanpur signed an MoU with National Automotive Test Tracks NATRAX to facilitate collaboration on the areas of Real Drive Emission and Emission Norms, as well as other areas deemed fit in the future. IIT Kanpur signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Armed Forces Medical Services. The MoU was signed by Prof. S. Ganesh, Director, IIT Kanpur and Director General Armed Forces Medical Services Lt Gen Daljit Singh. The Institute will provide technical expertise for developing AI diagnostic models at the Armed Forces Centre for Computational Medicine established in Armed Forces Medical College.
The opportunity school inaugurated Vigyanalaya (an applied science laboratory) in the graceful presence of Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, Prof. S. Ganesh, Director IIT Kanpur, Prof. Kantesh Balani, Dean of Resources and Alumni, Prof. H. C. Verma, Prof. Sudeep Bhattacharjee, Dr. Chetna Mishra, Principal of the School and other staff. The laboratory facilitates diverse activities, ranging from basic tasks like crafting earthworm models to more complex concepts such as electrolysis and designing sensor devices with Arduino.
IIT Kanpur and Blockchain for Impact (BFI) forge strategic partnership to accelerate Healthcare Innovation in India under the BFI-Biome Virtual Network Program to nurture innovations and drive advancements in healthcare in India. BFI pledged to allocate over $150,000 USD across three years to develop programs specifically tailored to healthcare-focused startups at Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre, IIT Kanpur, aimed at developing impactful solutions that address critical gaps in India's healthcare landscape.

Prof. Ashok Kumar Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering, is conferred with the honorary doctorate in the field of technology D.Sc.(tech) by Aalto University, Finland. His area of research focuses on developing a new generation of cryogel biomaterials, smart polymeric materials, and nanomaterials for various applications in biotechnology and biomedical engineering.
IITK signed an MoU with Engineers India Limited (EIL) to form the IITK-EIL Clean Energy Research Center, which will address two of the important thrust areas - green hydrogen, and carbon sequestration, along with conversion of the same to value-added products or even fuels.

Ramkumar, Professor-in-Charge, Dr. Amandeep Singh, REO, MedTech, and other stakeholders associated with Makerspace.
The company expressed their commitment to collaborate further by sharing the layout of Makerspace and proposing artwork concepts for façade, experience zone, and other relevant areas. Subsequently, following their productive visit to IITK, KARAM extended hospitality to IITK faculty at its factory in Lucknow. These partnerships between industry and academia are essential for translating theory into practice, particularly in the fields such as safety. IIT Kanpur looks forward to an impactful and long-lasting collaboration with KARAM aimed at advancing innovation, knowledge exchange, and mutual growth.

The inauguration of the New Swimming Pool facility was done in the graceful presence of Prof. S. Ganesh, Director IITK,; Prof. Braj Bhushan, Dean of Administration; Prof. Samit Ray Chaudhuri, Dean of Infrastructure and Planning; Prof. Pratik Sen, Acting Dean of Student Affairs, and other faculty members along with a few Institute officials. The pool also has a water fountain in the shape of “COBRA” making it a perfect pool for children to have fun and learn basic swimming skills.
C3i Hub IIT Kanpur launched startup cohorts III, IV, and V at Hyatt Regency, New Delhi. Funded by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, under the NM-ICPS Mission, C3iHub presented 19 startups in the Startup Incubation Program, specializing in specific cybersecurity areas including Application Security, Integrated SOC Solution, Cyber Forensics, Blockchain Technology, UAV Security, IoT Security, and Cyber Insurance.
The event was graced by Dr. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, DST; Lt. Prof. Bushra Ateeq, professor at the BSBE department of IITK got awarded the Rajib Goyal prize for Young scientists in Life Sciences 2024. She is the Senior Fellow of DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance. She completed her masters and PhD from Aligarh Muslim University in 1997 and 2003 respectively.
IIT Kanpur’s Techkriti '24, Asia's one of the largest annual technical and entrepreneurial festivals, started with its 30th edition from 14-17th March 2024. The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of Prof. S. Ganesh, Director IIT Kanpur; Prof. Manindra Agrawal, CSE Department of IITK; Prof. Ashish Garg, SEE Department; Prof. Amitabha Bandyopadhyay, BSBE Department of IITK; and Air Chief Marshal, Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria (Rtd).
The inaugural day of Techkriti ’24, themed ‘The Cosmic Nexus’, began with the enchanting classical melodies of ragas, followed by Samay Raina’s comedy night and a visually striking LED show. The day concluded with a vibrant Hip-Hop House Party featuring artists Yungsta, AB 17, and YKSDOG. The following day commenced with a stimulating panel discussion on “renewable Energy and Forest Conservation for Green Economy '', followed by an engaging session with YouTuber, Gaurav Thakur. The captivating performances of Ankit Tiwari and Farhan Akhtar added to the mesmerizing ambience, with Befikra Tejas wrapping up the day with his enthralling show.
IIT Kanpur hosted an evening dedicated to the introduction of the Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology, and the Yadupati Singhania Super Specialty Hospital to industry leaders and dignitaries from the state of Uttar Pradesh on 15th March 2024. This event aimed at presenting the futuristic initiatives of the School and highlighted IIT Kanpur's ambitious initiatives to redefine healthcare and MedTech innovation in India.

The Counselling Service, IIT Kanpur organized a ‘Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training’ in collaboration with professionals from the Suicide Prevention India Foundation (SPIF) on March 13th and 14th. This training was aimed at equipping its community members with vital skills to support individuals in crisis situations. IIT Kanpur officially launched its Air Sampling Device, titled the 'Multiple Slit Nozzle-based High Volume PM2.5 Impactor Assembly,' developed by Prof. Tarun Gupta. The device is designed to collect samples for assessing various air parameters, including respirable air quality, ambient air monitoring and sampling, and quantitative evaluations of air pollutants. With this technology, the overall aim is to empower communities with accurate and accessible tools for monitoring air quality, ultimately fostering a healthier environment for all.

Dr. Rajeev Gautam (BT/ChE/1974) generously contributed 250,000 USD to establish three endowed programs focused on promoting research and education in the Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Kanpur, which will support the establishment of Om Prakash Gautam Endowed Faculty Chair, Rajeev and Joyce Gautam Faculty Fellowship and Rajeev and Joyce Gautam travel grant for students. Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to collaborate in the R&D efforts of UP Digital Health Stack (UP-DHS) under National Health Stack (NHS) program of The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). The partnership between the Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology at IIT Kanpur and the Uttar Pradesh Government will enhance healthcare delivery by integrating AI into telehealth and point-of-care diagnostics. The MoU was signed by Prof. Sandeep Verma, Professor-In-Charge, Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology, and Shri Ranjan Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Government of Uttar Pradesh, in the presence of honorable Deputy Chief Minister Shri Brajesh Pathak.
In the graceful presence of Prof. Kantesh Balani, Dean of Resources and Alumni, Prof. Ashish Garg, Professor-in-Charge, Kotak School of Sustainability at IIT Kanpur, Mr. Kapil Kaul, CEO, IITK Development Foundation and alumni of The Class of 1974, Mr. Bhadresh Shah (BT/MME/1974), Managing Director, AIA Engineering Ltd., inaugurated a 200 KW Rooftop Solar PV Plant installed on the terrace of the New Core Lab on 23 February. 10 Invertors, each with a capacity of 20 KW are installed in this plant. It is expected to reduce carbon footprint on the campus by 233.60 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide per annum.

Under its CSR initiative, NMTronics India Pvt. Ltd. signed an MoU with Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur to establish NMTronics Center of Excellence for Electronics Manufacturing at IITK. IIT Kanpur signed an MoU with Conlis Global Inc. for licensing of an innovative new technology titled "Nano Hydroxyapatite Based Porous Polymer Composite Scaffolds for Bioactive Molecule Delivery in Musculoskeletal Regeneration" to Conlis Global Inc., a biotechnology company based in Canada. The MoU was exchanged between Prof. Tarun Gupta, Dean of Research and Development, IITK and Dr. Sumrita Bhat, CEO, Conlis Global Inc. The technology has been developed by Prof. Ashok Kumar, Department of Biological Sciences & Bioengineering, and his team of researchers.
Our honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji inaugurated the campus of Indian Institute of Skills Kanpur at NSTI. IIT Kanpur had signed an MoU with Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) Kanpur, in which IIT Kanpur will mentor IIS Kanpur to Establish State-of-the-art Laboratories and Cutting-Edge Curriculum. The MoU was inked in the presence of Hon'ble Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan Ji, Ministry of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India on 9th November 2023. The partnership is aimed at building capacities and meeting the aspirations of India's youth by upskilling the working force and the youth of our country.

Every year, the institute hosts the Institute Flower Show at the Institute Nursery to celebrate the arrival of spring. The Institute Flower Show was held on 17-18 Feb. It was a pleasure to see the spectacular display of beautiful flora and flowers. The Women's Association, IIT Kanpur hosted a fair with delicious food stalls, games stalls, puppet show, and an art competition, as well as a variety of fun activities for children such as Jump, Bounce and Play on a Bouncy Castle, which drew enthusiastic participation from campus residents.

Prof. Shantanu Bhattacharya, a senior faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering is appointed as the Director of CSIR – Central Scientific Instruments Organization (CSIO), Chandigarh.
Prof. Sameer Khandekar was a highly dynamic and enthusiastic person, he was not just an excellent faculty, but also deeply into music, art, and culture, which led him to establish the APPROACH Cell at IITK. He believed in inclusivity and right to education for every child as he dedicatedly devoted much of his time at Shiksha Sopan, providing education to many underprivileged children in the most creative ways.
Prof. T. R. Viswanathan., affectionately known as TRV, was one of the founding faculty members at IIT Kanpur in the 1960's. He was a professor in Electrical Engineering Dept., Head, Computer Centre, and Dean of R&D at the Institute. Dr. Viswanathan spent 15 years in research and development, product design, manufacturing, and management in the industry. IITK recently instituted Prof. T. R. Viswanathan Chair and Prof T. R. Viswanathan Young Faculty Fellowship in Teaching Excellence in his honor. His seminal contributions in the early years of IITK paved a way for stronger foundations on which the Institute now proudly stands.

Kotak and IITK believe that this School, with a vision to promote pedigree education, research, and outreach, will offer thought leadership solutions towards sustainability actions and prepare future generations to lead the cause of sustainable development. Prof. Sachchida Nand Tripathi and Prof. Arun Shukla are bestowed with the coveted Infosys Prize 2023 in the categories of 'Engineering and Computer Science' and 'Life Sciences' respectively. Prof. Tripathi, Dept. of Civil Engineering and Sustainable Energy Engineering, has received this recognition for the deployment of large-scale sensor-based air quality network and mobile laboratory for hyper local measurements of pollution, data generation and analysis using artificial intelligence and machine learning for effective air quality management and citizens awareness. Prof. Shukla, BSBE Dept, has been awarded for his outstanding and far-reaching contributions to the field of G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) biology. His work has opened up previously uncharted avenues for designing novel and effective therapeutics.
The Physics Dept. held its first talk under the newly instituted Prof. Rakesh Popli and Mrs. Rama Popli Distinguished Lecture Series on Common Man Science by Prof. H C Verma. His talk focused on science using kitchen materials showcasing the scientific phenomena of physics, chemistry, and biology. Mrs. Rama Popli visited the Institute with her children, Dr. Abhimanyu Popli and Ms. Shivaranjani Popli Verma, who established this lecture series under their parents' names. The Popli family also had the opportunity to visit Shiksha Sopan and Rozi Shikasha Kendra.

Under CSR initiative, IIT Kanpur has signed an MoU with the tower research Capital Markets India and Tower Research Capital India for developing AI/ML for India and social good. Rs. 3 Crore project aims to reengineer public grievances systems, and redressal processes in Indian organizations, and develop an indigenous AI-based India stack for AI services. Centre for developing Intelligent systems (CDIS) at IITK wil develop a SAAS platform for common AI/ML use cases and serving AI/ML models specialized for the needs of India for the company.
Prof. Avinash Kumar Agarwal was elected as a Fellow of TWAS – The World Academy of Sciences, a program unit of UNESCO. TWAS is a global science academy for the advancement of science in developing countries, supporting sustainable prosperity through research, education, policy and diplomacy.
The Ranjit Singh Rozi Shiksha Kendra, IIT Kanpur, showcased a model of rural development in a unique ceremony in the presence of the Chief Guest Shri Durga Shankar Mishra, Hon. Chief Secretary of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, and special guest Mr. Raju Jalan, Vice Chairman of Council of Leather.
The doctoral students from IIT Kanpur demonstrated teaching the students at remote rural schools through the Online Rural Education Initiative (OREI) platform.
When the Chief Guest inquired about how the IIT Kanpur classes were benefiting them, the children responded enthusiastically, stating, "OREI classes make difficult concepts simple. The math classes are especially interesting, and we love them." He noted that OREI is a unique model supported by the Government of Uttar Pradesh and encouraged the RSK to expand its reach by connecting with more universities and aiming to reach 500 students by the following year.

Dr. Shubham Sahay, Department of Electrical Engineering, was selected as Young Associate of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE)- 2023. A senior member of the IEEE, Dr. Sahay's research interests lie in Hardware Platforms for Neuromorphic Computing, Hardware Security Primitives, Novel Device Architectures for Scaling CMOS Technology, Analytical and Compact Modeling of Semiconductor Devices, Non-volatile Memories, and Spintronics.

He is a faculty in the Dept. of Chemical Engineering.
Mr. Gopal Sutwala and his family have donated Rs. 41 Lakhs to support treatment of patients from ‘Economically Weaker Section’ at the upcoming Yadupati Singhania Super Speciality Hospital of Gangwal School of Medical Sciences & Technology at IIT Kanpur. An MoU was signed between Sutwala family and IIT Kanpur to support the establishment of a bay within a general ward allocated for patients covered under different government health schemes at Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology with a 500 bedded Yadupati Singhania super-speciality hospital at IIT Kanpur.

Prof. Nitin Saxena, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, received the 'IIT Bombay International Award for Excellence in Research in Engineering and Technology' for 2023 on Teachers’ Day. IIT Bombay has instituted this to be one of the most prestigious awards of Southeast Asia and it celebrates the contributions of researchers and academicians in engineering and technology who have made professional contributions over the last ten years with impact in the real world. The nominations are taken from Bhutan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.
IIT Kanpur celebrated Teachers' Day honoring some of the most esteemed faculty members for their unwavering dedication and outstanding contributions to knowledge sharing. The institute presented the Distinguished Teacher Award, Excellence-in-Teaching Awards, 1989 Batch Faculty Award, and acknowledged those who have served the institute for 25 years. Prof. Deepak Pathak from IIT Bombay was the Chief Guest. Prof. Phatak is known for inspiring generations of students and faculty. During the event, he graciously shared valuable insights from his life, enlightening us all. In the spirit of this special day, we took the opportunity to recognise.
An orientation session was held on Student Welfare Initiatives & Programs for the Y23 batch on 25 Aug. 2023. The aim of the session was to apprise first year students on various scholarships, awards, and other programs that are offered at the institute. Prof. Kantesh Balani, Dean of Resources & Alumni, addressed some key points, such as, student support programs, IITK alumni family, and the contributions by some major donors of the institute. The office of SSPC highlighted the importance of scholarships and how students could avail them. The session was attended by more than 250 students.
Prof. Nitin Gupta was selected for the S. Ramachandran National Bioscience Award. This award is given by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, to recognize scientists below 45 years of age who have made outstanding contributions in basic and applied research areas of biosciences and biotechnology, with potential for technology development.
Prof. Abhay Kanrandikar along with his team, held a series of alumni engagement events in San Francisco, Houston, and New York in August. These events provided an opportunity for our alumni to network and collaborate, and know about the latest developments at IITK.
Through the generous contributions of late Mr. Jay Pullur (MT/CSE/1987) and Mrs. Nirmala Pullur, IIT Kanpur established the 'Jay Pullur Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation Laboratory' in the Cognitive Science Department. This laboratory will focus on cutting-edge research in Brain Mapping & Stimulation, making valuable strides in neuroscience. The reading room in P K Kelkar Library has been renovated & equipped with new furniture as 'Jay Pullur Reading Room'. An endowment fund has been created to support & promote neuroscience research. The fund will be utilized to organize lecture series, provide student scholarships, and offer travel grants to research scholars, thereby fostering growth and innovation in the field.

His outstanding work in areas like Affective Processing, Psychological Assessment, and Early Detection of Developmental Disorders, such as Autism, has been recognized and appreciated by the BPS.

IIT Kanpur signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Laurus Labs.This collaboration is centered around licensing of gene therapy assets that have emerged from path-breaking research conducted by Prof Jayandharan Rao and his team. Under this partnership, Laurus Labs Ltd. will collaborate with IIT Kanpur to develop novel drugs based on gene therapy assets, focusing on treating challenging disorders such as retinal degeneration, hemophilia, and muscular dystrophy. The aim is to provide affordable treatment options not only in India but also in emerging markets.
The Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC), IIT Kanpur, participated in the prestigious Incubators Connect Program organized by DWIH New Delhi in Germany from 4th- 9th June 2023. IIT Kanpur joined forces with leading incubators, Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs), and entrepreneurship-focused institutions to stimulate vibrant dialogues on internationalizing business incubators and foster stronger collaborations between India and Germany.

DoRD and Technopark, IITK collaborated to celebrate National Technology Day and held series of talks focused on critical sectors of research and development, including healthcare , cybersecurity, defense, and clean tech. Speakers from IITK and industry shared their insights on pressing issues related to research and development.
Online Rural Education Initiative (OREI) by Ranjit Singh Rozi Shiksha Kendra at IITK has been adopted by the Department of Education in Uttar Pradesh. The initiative will be implemented in ten government secondary schools in the first phase, and another 100 schools will be added by the end of the year. OREI is a noble initiative to provide high-quality education using smart classrooms & technology to enable two-way communication. The project is child-centric, and teaching resources are mapped to the NCERT syllabus, using colloquial Hindi that students in villages can relate to.
The Imagineering Lab of IIT Kanpur developed Shudham, a low-cost a low-cost purifier-cum-cooler. This innovative solution aims to provide affordable & efficient access to clean water for rural households & urban middle-class society. Led by Prof. J. Ramkumar, Dept of Mechanical Engineering & Dr. Amandeep Singh, the team has addressed the limitations of the initial model and improvised it into a low-cost water purifier-cum-cooler that is user-friendly, easy to maintain, and economical.
Dr. Vivek Lal delivered an Institute Lecture on The Future of Engineering". He is United States Technical Team member to the NATO STO and serves on various advisory boards including the International Advisory Group of the US Chamber of Commerce and the Global Board of Directors of the US India Business Council. He also met with Prof. Abhay Karandikar, IITK Director.

IIT Kanpur hosted the Y20 Consultation supported by the Ministry of Youth Support and Affairs as part of the G20 Presidency of India. The Y20 Consultation provided a platform for young minds to deliberate on three main topics - "Future of Health," "Technologies for Sustainable Future," and "Innovation in Future of Work." Over 1500 youth delegates participated.
The University of Buffalo, the State University of New York signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the IITK-UB Joint Centre of Excellence in Biomedicine & Bioengineering at IITK.
An alumni networking event was held in Melbourne, Australia on 15 March 2023 to strengthen relations and appraise them of the latest developments at the institute.
IIT Kanpur signed an MoU with the Hinduja Group on 4th March 2023. The Hinduja Group will provide mentorship and investment in the startups at the institute , facilitating their growth and expansion on a global level. IIT Kanpur and the University of Alberta, Canada, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) towards collaborating for a Joint Degree Program (JDP) and be part of a Joint Research Innovation Network. Under the Joint Degree Program, the faculty members from two universities can supervise a PhD student jointly. This will allow students from either side to visit and carry out research work in the partner university. IIT Kanpur will also collaborate with the University of Alberta in the Joint Research Innovation Network with a focus on developing new, renewable, and efficient energy materials, systems and technologies for the clean energy transition to address the climate issues.

Prof. Jayant K. Singh was awarded the NASI- Reliance Industries Platinum Jubilee Award 2022, covering both physical and biological sciences. The award is constituted by the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) and is given to an individual researcher for application-oriented innovations.

Prof. Krishanu Biswas, Department of the Materials Science and Engineering for being elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, U.K. His research interests are in understanding the phase transformation of various nanoscale materials prepared via various routes, solidification, mechanical alloying, chemical synthesis or severe plastic deformation. He is the current occupant of Ranjit Singh Chair.

IIT Kanpur held its 55th Convocation on 29 June 2022. Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Founder & Chairperson, Narayana Health Care, was the Chief Guest. The event was graced by Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Chairman of Board of Governors, IITK; BoG members, Dr. Saurabh Srivastava, Shri Pradeep Goyal, Dr. Manoj Gonugunthla, Dr. Mahesh Gupta, Prof. Manas K. Ghorai, and Prof. Bishakh Bhattacharya. Attended by head of the departments, IITK faculty, and parents of graduating students, 1360 students were conferred degrees. Students were also issued digital degrees to all the graduating students using blockchain-driven technology developed at IIT Kanpur. The degrees are based on Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) and unforgeable and globally verified.

In the first leg of the visit, the delegation interacted with the alumni at Indian Consulate, New York on 08 May 2022.
